In 1992, Josephus Thimister took over as creative director at Balenciaga, leading the brand to great heights. However, his career at Balenciaga was marred by a 1997 runway show that did not meet with public approval.

Nicolas Ghesquière, known for the 'IT' Lariat bag and hyper-floral prints, made Balenciaga a reference in the fashion world. During his tenure, the Global Luxury Group Kering acquired the fashion house.
